Red Vox

What is Red Vox?

Red Vox is a band created in 2015 consisting of members Vinny, Mike, Joe and Bill. They create music that could be considered indie rock, although I feel like it also occasionally comes off as psychedelic rock as well.

Red Vox is not the first band that the main singer, Vinny, has been in. The first would be Davy's Grey, consisting of himself, Mike, and their friend Phil. This band was disbanded after releasing one EP, and the other members went off to participate in other bands while Vinny created some solo music. Vinny's full discography can be found here.

As of writing this, Red Vox has released six albums: What Could Go Wrong, Another Light, Kerosene, Realign, Visions, and Afterthoughts. They have also released two EPs: Blood Bagel, and Lost For A While. My personal favorite albums so far have been Realign, and Afterthoughts. I'll go into more detail about each album and specific songs below!

Why Do I Like Red Vox?

The main singer Vinny is the founder of the streaming group Vinesauce. I have enjoyed the content of many of Vinesauces' members for a very long time, especially Vinny's as he was usually a bit more laid back than most other streamers.

I had likely first discovered Vinesauce through what Vinny is most known for: Corruption Streams. These are streams in which a game is intentionally glitched with special software in order to create interesting or amusing effects. Corrupting was inspired by what's called "Cartridge Tilting", where one would achieve the same effect but by physically pushing or tilting the cartridge of a game in a console while playing. As someone who is fascinated by video game glitches, these streams were the perfect type of content, and I've been a fan ever since.

The drummer of the band, Mike, also creates streaming content, although is not a part of Vinesauce. I had discovered Mike through Vinny as well, specifically during a stream where they played Smash Bros for the Wii U. I was intrigued by his thick New York accent. Rarely, Mike performs the drums on his stream, which I thought was impressive, despite his self-depreciative remarks. Ever since then I have been a fan of Mike as well.

I discovered Red Vox in 2015 when it first started up through Vinny's streaming content. I had always enjoyed his taste in music that he would play during the BRB sections of his streams. When he revealed that he would be starting up a band, I was very interested to see what type of music they would be able to create.

The first Red Vox song that I listened to (and I believe the first Red Vox song released) was Trolls and Goblins. This was an updated rendition of an older song that was released as an incentive for the 2015 Vinesauce Charity Stream. I thought the song was amusing, and was impressed with Vinny's singing voice. Once again I've been a fan of Red Vox ever since then.

Disclaimer:
I am not an expert on music at all, so please don't take this too seriously and forgive me if I make mistakes such as miscategorize certain genres or completely miss the intended meaning of lyrics. I don't normally pay attention to the lyrics of music, as I am more focused on how the song sounds in general, and that is how I like to enjoy music! I occasionally do look up the lyrics of some songs, but again I tend to be oblivious to hidden meanings, symbolism, and metaphors. My smooth brain just enjoys and prioritizes sounds over words.

This is just for me to ramble about and share some of my favorite songs!

What Could Go Wrong (2016)

What Could Go Wrong is the first album released by Red Vox in 2016. This album leans more towards the indie rock genre probably the most out of any of the other albums. While not my favorite, this album is very nostalgic to me, and I knew I would enjoy listening to it for many years to come. Going back to listen to it again it's interesting to hear how much not just Vinny's voice but the band as a whole has improved over the years. This first album is a little rough around the edges, especially when compared to their newer stuff, but I feel like some of the songs still hold up pretty well.

I think this is one of those times where I've actually bought music before, as I had bought myself a shirt and CD for this album when it released. I bought the shirt way too big though, because I thought "Well too big is better than too small", and that's how I ended up with a shirt that I mostly wear as pajamas to this day. But the CD is cool to have. I think around this time I had a phase of buying some CDs of other albums I enjoyed as well, because during that time I also bought CDs for Plastic Beach and A Moon Shaped Pool. Fits right in next to them :v
